Don’t Expect Nioh Games To Release On Xbox

It looks like Team Ninja’s Nioh games won’t be coming to Xbox anytime soon.

Both Nioh games were originally released on PS4 and PC, but never on Microsoft’s console.

Speaking to VGC, Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda played down any possibility of the game coming to Xbox.

“There’s really nothing to note about it,” he said. “Currently, there isn’t really a possibility of having Nioh on Xbox platforms, but we hope Xbox fans will enjoy Wo Long and look forward to the release of this game. That’s probably all we can say about that at the moment.”

That’s not to say Team Ninja isn’t impressed with Xbox or its Game Pass offering.

Its next game, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, will be released on PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, coming to Game Pass on day one.

Yasuda hopes Game Pass will boost the game’s online multiplayer.

“We are very happy that so many players have the chance to try out a Team Ninja title potentially for the first time with Wo Long. But just because it’s on Game Pass, we didn’t go and change ‘XYZ’.. It’s not really something we’ve done on the dev side,” Yasuda said.

“But what we think is a really big benefit of having the game on Game Pass is that with so many new players trying it out, it will help the online community potentially grow, and then there’s will have a lot more players for people to play online or play together in the multiplayer aspects of the game, so we really hope this keeps the community in a very good and thriving place.

Yasuda is also positive about Xbox’s success in Team Ninja’s Japanese market.

“We think the Xbox platform is more present in Japan: we’re definitely seeing that here. We think Game Pass is helping a lot more people get to grips with the Xbox platform – a lot more people are coming in and playing games and be part of that,” Yasuda said.

“However, from our point of view, just from a numbers point of view, Japan seems to be quite dominated by Nintendo consoles and the Switch. But yeah, we really feel in Japan that Xbox is definitely trying to get a foothold with the current platform.”

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty will be released next year. Producer Masaaki Yamagiwa defended Team Ninja’s decision to stick with a single difficulty, but with multiple ways for players to complete the challenge.
