Former Sony executive joins Tencent

Shawn Layden, best known for his stint in senior roles at Sony, joined Tencent Games last month, it has emerged.

First spotted in an update to Layden’s LinkedIn profile, Layden has since confirmed the change in statements posted on social media.

The Strategic Advisor position at Tencent is listed under Layden’s experience, as of August 2022.

Layden released separate statements on Twitter and LinkedIn regarding the rumors stemming from his LinkedIn profile. “Looks like LinkedIn jumped the cash wall,” he wrote on Twitter, later confirming his role as a strategic advisor.

The statement posted on LinkedIn echoed sentiments similar to those posted on Twitter. “I hope to advise, help and support the Tencent team,” Layden explained.

Layden left Sony in 2019 after 32 years with the company and is widely known as one of the faces of PlayStation. Tencent, meanwhile, has recently increased its stakes in several studios such as Ubisoft and FromSoftware.
