Picross S8 is coming to Switch next week with four-player local multiplayer

Developer Jupiter has unveiled an eighth main installment in its powerful Picross puzzle series on Switch, with its major new addition being multiplayer support for up to four players when it launches next week. Additionally, multiplayer and touchscreen support would have been added to all previous Switch installments at the same time.

Picross S8, as this new entry is known, follows the same familiar formula as its predecessors – each stage requiring players to complete an image on a grid by solving numerical clues indicating which squares need to be filled – but adds a bit of spice to the procedure by letting four players work together to complete each challenge.

According to the official Picross website, this is local multiplayer only (the trailer suggests there is a score-based component despite everyone working cooperatively to complete the same puzzle ), and each player will need their own controller to participate.

In total, Picross S8 will feature 485 new stages: 300 Picross and Mega Picross puzzles, 150 Clip Picross puzzles, 30 Color Picross puzzles and five Extra puzzles. Three additional additional puzzles will also be unlocked for Picross S4, Picross S5, and Picross S6 owners.

Picross S8 is coming to the Switch eShop next Thursday, September 29, where it will retail for £8.99 / €9.99 / $8.99 USD. Nintendo Life reports that its release will be accompanied by an update for all previous installments in the Switch series, adding the same multiplayer and touchscreen support found in Picross S8.
