Sable Developer Celebrates One Year Anniversary With Official Art Book

An upcoming book focusing on all things Sable will be released to celebrate the game’s first anniversary.

Sable: Design Works will be the first installment in publisher Lost in Cult’s new series of independent art books. This particular release, which is slated to launch in the second quarter of 2023, will feature interviews from those at developer Shedworks, as well as a “region-by-region overview” of the world of Midden and its art.

Sable is coming to PlayStation 5 later this year.

The book itself will be divided into two different sections, one that “represents the development of Sable from its early concepts and prototypes, through production, to launch” and the other that focuses exclusively on the work of art.

This final section will break down “the characters, costumes, and stories associated with [Midden’s seven regions]while highlighting the unique geography, ruins and monuments, flora and fauna, bike parts and masks.” A map of Midden, along with level design layouts, moodboards and various Other sectional concept ideas will also feature in this section of Sable: Design Works.

Meanwhile, interviewees include Shedworks’ Gregorios Kythreotis and Daniel Fineberg, artist Sable Shanaz Bryne, animator Micah Holland, “and more,” with words from Ewan Wilson (whose name you might recognize in articles such as this article on video game architecture on Eurogamer).

Charmingly, those who choose to pre-order the Deluxe version of Sable: Design Works will also receive three unique cut-out architectural models that were designed by model maker Ellie Sampson. There will also be other additional accessories such as a “bespoke” Sable bookplate signed by the developers at Shedworks included with this edition.

The Deluxe version of this book will come in a red slipcase (seen in the header image above) and will cost you £109.99. The standard softcover book, meanwhile, will cost £39.99. Both editions can be pre-ordered now through Lost in Cult.

Sable was recently announced to be coming to PlayStation 5 later this year. This version will include a new fishing mini-game and a fisherman’s mask. You will also have the option of adding various fish and insects to your vivarium.
