Saturnalia, the ever-evolving survival horror from the developers of MirrorMoon EP, will be released in October
Saturnalia – the gripping multi-character survival horror from acclaimed developer Santa Ragione – finally has a release date and will invite PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and PC gamers into its ever-evolving maze on October 27th.
We’re big fans of Santa Ragione’s previous work, which includes MirrorMoon EP and Fotonica, around these parts, and Saturnalia looks equally intriguing. It’s a sort of survival horror adventure – heavily influenced by Sardinian folklore – that sees players guide four different characters through a mysterious ancient village steeped in dark rituals.
Saturnalia’s goal is to investigate and ultimately solve the mystery of the village, but there are dark things in the night that are determined to stop you. If you’re captured as one character, you can switch to another and attempt a rescue – but once all four characters are dead, the village can reassert itself, its labyrinthine layout physically reconfiguring itself for another attempt. The progression of storytelling and puzzles, however, is retained across playthroughs.
If that brief description intrigued you, there’s a much deeper dive into the mechanics of Saturnalia in the recently released gameplay preview trailer above.
Saturnalia is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Switch, and PC (via Epic Games Store) on October 27, and if you want to know more about its game-changing horrors, Eurogamer’s Christian Donlan had a long chat. with Santa Ragione last year.
