Yakuza samurai spin-off Like a Dragon: Ishin is coming to PS4 and PS5 next year
Sega has announced a Western release for the historic Yakuza spin-off Like a Dragon: Ishin, which has been “rebuilt from the ground up” and will be coming to PS4 and PS5 next February.
Like a Dragon: Ishin was originally released for PlayStation 3 and PS4 in Japan (as Ryūga Gotoku Ishin!) in 2014, transplanting the chaotic Yakuza formula to the late Edo period for a historic slice of action from samurai.
It follows protagonist Sakamoto Ryōma as he returns home to Tosa where, after an altercation with a high-ranking samurai, he is sentenced to be executed.
Needless to say, that particular crisis is averted and Ryoma finds himself on a quest through 1860s Kyo that serves up another distinctive slice of story, action, and mini-games that should be familiar to Yakuza fans, even if the frame is not ‘t.
Sega hasn’t provided many details regarding the upcoming changes to Like a Dragon: Ishin as part of its “from the ground up” rebuild, but it will likely have more to share in the lead up to its PS4 and PS5 release in February next year.
Following the PlayStation State of Play, it has also been confirmed that the game will also be coming to Xbox and PC consoles.
